Sealdah division cancels 8 local trains for overhaul of Kankurgachi Bridge

The Sealdah Division has decided to cancel local trains in at least eight routes and divert trains in some more following an overhaul of Bridge No. X-25 at Kankurgachi.

The train regulations are to take place between 10 p.m. of 24 January to 9 p.m. of 25 January when the divisional railway would take a mega traffic and power block of 23 hours to carry out repair works. According to the divisional railway, the existing girders, having served their lifespan, are being replaced as part of a proactive safety initiative. The installation of modern, robust girders would reinforce the structural integrity of the bridge but also pave the way for enhanced train speeds and smoother operations in this vital section. Divisional authorities have planned this mega block during the weekend as Sunday is a public holiday, the impact on daily commuters and office-goers will be significantly reduced.

The overhaul of the bridge is to be carried out between Kankurgachi (KGK) and Ballygunge (BLN) stations on the up and down Chord Lines on Saturday/Sunday. Due to block on the chord line, passengers travelling from the Sealdah North section to Sealdah South section would have to interchange at Sealdah Station to continue their journey.

To enable the block and the repair works, the divisional railway has announced the cancellation of local trains including 31053 UP Budge Budge – Naihati, 31422 DN, 31442 DN, 31446 DN / 31431 UP Naihati – Sealdah, 30358 DN / 30357 UP Madhyamgram – Majerhat, 33061 UP Canning – Barasat, 30152 DN, 30154 DN / 30123 UP Naihati – Majerhat, 30135 UP Majerhat – Ranaghat, 34157 UP, 34117 UP Budge Budge – Sealdah and 30321 UP Majerhat – Hasnabad.

Apart from this, some of the local trains to and from Budge Budge would be diverted and terminated at Sealdah while few others are to be short terminated/ originated/diverted from Barasat and Dum Dum. As learnt, 30552 Ballygunge – Ghutiari Sharif local would originate from Majerhat at 7.30 p.m. with stoppages at all stations between Majerhat and Ballygunge.
